Memorial Safety

Inspection and works programme

Littledean Parish Council commenced a programme of inspection and works in 2010 to ensure that both its Cemetery in Littledean Village and Saint Ethelbert’s closed Churchyard are safe places to both visit and work. The inspections followed a number fatalities and serious injuries around the Country from unsafe headstones. Following guidance published by the Ministry of Justice and professional bodies the Parish Council has tested the stability of headstones and other memorials at its sites and has undertaken temporary works to make dangerous memorials safe.

A list of memorials that failed the test can be downloaded below. The Parish Council is asking grave owners and relatives affetced to contact the Parish Clerk directly.
